SPORTSMAN / INTERMEDIATE PATTERN MEET
Results from the Sportsman/Intermediate pattern meet on May 8, 1999.
Nine contestants turned out for our 2nd annual pattern meet. Two in the Intermediate class and seven in Sportsman. Three of the Sportsman were trying pattern for the first time.
The day started off with a training session presented by Troy Newman and Jeff Carrish. They did a great job explaining the maneuvers and going over the rules. Troy put in a couple of demo flights to show everyone how it should be done (he flew well, but he needs to work on the three loops!) Everyone learned a lot, and had a great time. Thanks guys!
The competition started about 10:30, and we were able to get in two rounds before the lunch break. After lunch the winds picked up a bit and continued to get stronger as the day progressed. Some of the pilots were starting to struggle during the fourth round. We called a pilots meeting to decide if they wanted to continue. Wouldn't you know it, the winds died down during the meeting, and most of the pilots wanted to continue with another round. Of course the winds picked up even stronger in the fifth round, and the pilots decided they'd had enough fun for one day.
