August 19-20, 2001

We had 104 pilots from 8 states who registered 136 planes for a great weekend of flying.

Quique Somenzini performed seven demonstration flights including one memorable "Beginner Pilot" flight with Jeff Oaks of AeroWorks. Pilots and spectators alike were amazed with what Quique can do with a transmitter in his hands.

Advertising along with newspaper and television coverage really brought out the spectators. At one point on Saturday over 500 cars filled the spectator parking lot. We estimate over 3000 spectators enjoyed our event. We tried something new this year with spectator buddy-box flying, and it was a huge success. We had no problem finding people who wanted to fly for the first time. We also had drawings for four trainer kits that were given away to spectators over the weekend.

We gave away or raffled off over $6,500.00 of airplanes, kits, engines, and accessories. A special "Thank You!" to all the contributing partners for making the raffles and door prized possible.

As always this event takes a lot of hard work by club members to make all the activities happen. Over 36 members and 10+ spouses and family members joined in the effort to make the event so successful.

Of course we wouldn't have such an event without all of the great pilots who joined us. Thank you for helping make the 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Big Bird Festival our best event yet. We hope you will be able to join us again next year!
